The Case of the Exploding Potato

Remember this pic?
I was baking sweet potatoes for dinner one night and had an extra regular potato, so I thought I'd just throw that one in, too. Well, sweet potatoes normally take longer to bake than regular ones (for me, anyway), and I didn't take that into consideration.

As I was checking them, I had just barely touched my oven-mitt clad hand to this one when suddenly, "KA-BLOOM!" the crazy thing EXPLODED. Got potato all over the inside of the front of the oven and around the door.

I was so shocked I just stood there for a minute. Sound Man heard the noise, came in and saw the mess and immediately went into clean mode. I knew I had a choice to make. Cry about it (it had been an AWFUL day), or laugh. I decided I had had enough to cry about that day so I laughed. I mean I LAUGHED. One of those loud, make you cry and nearly pee your pants laughs. I was bent over laughing while Sound Man was grumbling and cleaning up the mess. I told him to lighten up. It was quite funny. For me, anyway. Hee hee.

I'll be checking the potatoes a little earlier from now on. *snicker*

"I was bent over laughing while Sound Man was grumbling and cleaning up the mess" made me laugh. Out loud. Cause knowing y'all I can picture that whole scene, and that's what would happen here in my house. Tim would be cleaning, I'd be laughing.

Heretofore (do you like that word?!) I had not considered that yams/sweet potatoes take longer to cook than white potatoes. So thank you for that insight.

Then allowing the incident to make you laugh instead of cry -- a good lesson for all of us. It's like on some days the Enemy of our Souls just takes it up one notch too many and we suddenly are able to see what he's trying to do -- and we have to laugh and laugh and laugh. Bless you! Thanks for sharing this!

I'm sorry about your potatoes :( But so happy that it made me smile! BTW....I would love it if you stopped by my blog today to participate in the "Impossibility" challenge.

That's so odd! I've never had one explode in the oven. I'm always worried when I do them in the microwave that they'll explode. Glad you were able to laugh about it!

How absolutely adorable are those two on the sofa gazing out the window!

I love you for putting up that picture of the deer antler sticking out of the freezer. Tell your honey congratulations - that is impressive! You are so much better about all that meat than I am - I don't really even like deer and I don't cook it, so my guys give most of ours away. We did have a tenderloin last night from a pig that one of them shot recently and it was delicious. We also had baked potatoes. Bahaa!

p.s. I think this comment is on the wrong post. Ahem.
