31 Days of Worship - Who Worships?

I think sometimes we think that we as Christians have this worship thing to ourselves. But you know what? We're not the only ones who worship. As a matter of fact, everyone worships.

Everyone? Even someone like Stephen Hawking? Yep.

Saddam Hussein? Yes.

Adolf Hitler? Oh, my, yes.

See, worship by definition is not necessarily adoration of God the Father or Jesus the Savior. Worship is defined as "to feel an adoring reverence or regard for (any person or thing)." (Source)

While, yes, it's also defined as "reverent honor and homage paid to God..." (Source) most of us humans on earth don't do it that way.

What we value is what we worship. I can't say for sure because I've never met him, but I bet Stephen Hawking worships knowledge. Saddam Hussein worshiped power. Adolf Hitler worshiped his warped sense of perfection, among other heinous things.

It's what we put our time, our effort, our best toward. Just writing this is bubbling conviction up from my soul. Because I can tell you right now, I don't worship the One who is most deserving of it most of the time. I have my moments, yes, but not as I live and breathe, day in and day out.

You may ask, "How are we supposed to live day in and day out worshiping God? I can't work at my job and listen to praise music and lift my hands and pray without losing said job!" That's the great thing about true worship. You don't have to do all that to be in a state of worship.

So whether you eat or drink
(or go to an office or feed a toddler or drive a bus or write a blog)
or whatever you do,
do it all for the
glory
of God. (i.e. worship)

I Corinthians 10:31

I'll leave you with this to ponder...Everyone worships. It's what we were created to do. Who...or what...are you worshiping today?
