31 Days of Worship - Not a Spectator Sport

Worship.

What does that word mean to you?

Does it mean doing your weekly duty of church for an hour (or an hour and a half if your pastor is wordy) on Sunday?

Does it mean having great songs and a dynamic worship team on stage?

Does it mean engaging with the Lord?

I see every week with my own eyes people coming into church with a look on their faces that says, "Okay, I'm here. Entertain me." There are times when I'm singing on Praise Team and I'll see one of them standing there with a stony face and crossed arms even though we're singing one of the most thank-You-for-the-cross songs. I beg them with my eyes to engage. I want them to experience worship like they were meant to.

No, I don't mean every person who worships raises their hands, or cries, or any other outward showing of emotion. Worship isn't emotion, although it does stir emotion within us because we are emotional beings. When our souls are stirred, emotions are in the same soup pot. When I say "engage," I mean communicate with your Savior! Tell Him how much you love Him (and mean it!) and how worthy He is to receive your praise!

"Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom
and strength and honor and glory and praise!"

Revelation 5:11b

Come on, people! ENGAGE! HE IS WORTHY!

Ahem. I'm a little passionate about this subject. I think maybe I need to finish this up by asking a question. What's keeping you from engaging in worship, either privately or corporately?

I may have an answer. And you're not going to like it.

I sure didn't.

Above is a link (of it's not a clicky link, copy and paste into your browser) to a recent message our pastor did on God's Love Languages. I think it goes along nicely with your 31 Days of Worship. It's worth a bit of your time to watch or listen. I'm proud of you, you're doing a great job.
